Protection Finally Built
Yesterday, Emperor Hongwu, the second man to become emperor from peasant origins announced the completion of the Great Wall.
The
Great Wall of China is a structure built for defense and military
bases. It is built to protect the Terracotta Army. The wall has been
built in Northern China and is known as the largest wall built in the
world. In earlier dynasties, the Great Wall had been built in different
pieces. When the Ming Dynasty started ruling, Hongwu connected all the
pieces together and built extra pieces to fill in the gaps to create one
large wall. The Great Wall is approximately 50,000 kilometers and took
over 200 years to build. This was a very tiring project to work on. 2 to
3 million people had died just by the hard work that was put towards
building this wall.
Finally,
protection has been built and completed. This will help with the
struggles and dangers when traveling to the Silk Road. China can now be
safe from outsiders that ride around on their horses around the area.
The wall provides China with relief knowing that if someone such as the
Mongols try to steal an item, they will have difficulty getting away
with it.
The
Great Wall of China had been built throughout many dynasties. Common
people, soldiers and prisoners had worked to build this wall. Many items
were used to create the wall. Builders had tried to achieve using local
sources such as stone that were dug up from the mountains and used.
Wood had been also used to make the Great Wall. Since the Ming Dynasty
had ruled, brick, lime, and tile were materials that were commonly used.
In result, these materials were used to improve the structure of the
Great Wall.
Overall, the completion of the Great Wall has suddenly made an impact on China and China feels safer already.
